MOTÍN

BEST NEW BISTRO

MOTÍN

SHORTLISTED BY BISTRONAUT #4

WHO
Who doesn’t dream about an all-day breakfast café? Motín, a brightly colored café located in the stylish Roma Norte neighborhood, is the latest project of Angela Sosa (the owner) and Marion Albrecht (the chef), who are also behind the Condesa restaurant Quesería de Mí (with their cheese specialist brunch).

FOOD
From healthy to naughty meals, you will find happiness on this enjoyable menu that includes ricotta-blueberry pancakes (a MUST), waffles, fruit and acai bowls (rare in Mexico because acai trees are native to Brazil and the Amazon, and for how good they are), pastries, eggs in as many ways you can imagine and house specialties such as chilaquiles (a traditional Mexican dish made up of fried tortillas bathed in green or red salsa until tender and covered in lots of cheese) and avocado toast. Mexican, European and American fusion prepared with this level of creativity will satisfy even the hungriest breakfast monsters among us!

DRINKS
They even have a versatile drink offering and all the choices you can dream of are available! Think refreshing mimosas, excellent home-brewed coffee or delicious natural juices (the kiwi, strawberry and banana juices were all delicious).

DECOR
The decor is impressive. WOW! It makes a strong first impression with its energetic color palette and wall plants engineered by the creative agency, Futura: divine cobalt (Klein blue) and pink surfaces create a lively feeling! Just like how the food makes one feel!
It’s clear that the interiors and their identity were designed with pure love in mind, from the packaging and branding to the cute logo (a gluttonous pink hamster trying to steal your lunch).
This philosophy might still need to be applied to their indoor terrace however, which lacks charm or thoughtful decoration. It looks like a totally different place.

NOISE
From jazz to contemporary music. Angela told me that she does the playlist herself, and that the music choice was as good as the menu! She is right. Punchy songs with the right volume perfectly accompanying your fresh meal.

SEATING
Outside seating is available with very comfortable bistro chairs.
Inside seating is composed of a line of futuristic wood chairs and another of benches with leather cushions. Not the most comfortable sadly!

VIBE
This is the ideal spot to meet friends on the weekend for brunch, catch-up on emails or simply have a coffee or fresh juice before or after work.

SERVICE
Good service, a very friendly atmosphere.

WOULD RECOMMEND
A new destination for style-savvy hungry bellies. Motín has given Roma a new morning and afternoon spot, with delicious plates in the evening.
